As previously mentioned the Splash Pool was built around 20 years ago, (and extended since), the Pemberton Centre underwent a facelift some 10 years ago and now ENC want to mothball the pair??? ENC claim Splash isnt energy efficient. The ENC offices are in an old workhouse, how energy efficient is that building? Whilst children are still being educated in schools built 100 years ago, (Newton Road, Hayway) then surely a pool built 20 years ago must be adequate for a few more years, does anyone know what the projected life span for the Splash Pool was when it was constructed?
I fail to see what either site would achieve in the 'regeneration' of the town centre, Splash is tucked away from the High St, and the Pemberton Centre is nowhere near! This is taxpayers hard earned money they are freely throwing about on what seems a pet idea by a select few, that from what I can see only the council supports! The current cleansing depot and recycling centre sites in Newton Road are supposed to be becoming available in the near future as the facilities are relocated. Surely this would be a far better site within the town for construction of the new facilities?
I am a former employee of the ENC cleansing contractors, and from my experience there the services provided were down to a price not up to a standard, ENC seemed happy to turn a blind eye and let them get on with it.
We all need to express our views clearly to the elected members who are calmly trying to railroad this project through.

There will be a lot of people that do not read the free papers or have any interest in rugby that will oblivious to the fact the a leisure centre is about to be built on the land at Manor Park.
I'm not a rugby player, I played football for many years for local teams (mostly Earls Barton). We should not be building on land that is used by sports clubs, We should be encourageing these clubs to go and to attract the youngsters fo the twon into sport.
On another note, no wonder thay have offered an extension on the club house lease, How long till the property market recovers fully ??? It's the nil cost option for the council to get the greatest rate of return on their investment.

We all very much hope that you will be able to retain the pitch accommodation you need and that rugby will continue to be enjoyed at your present ground. Bedford Mini's and Juniors have enjoyed many happy visits to Rushden & Higham and we all hope that we will be able to do so long into the future.
With all good wishes for a secure future for your Club.

So the expected age of the new Leisure centre cannot be much better. Surely to replace a Rugby Club of some 60 years, with this tempory "white Elephant" must be a joke. When will the East northants Council see the light?

7th September, 2009
Mr Peter Bone M.P.
House Of Commons
London

Dear Mr. Bone
Thanks for your letter of 30th August and also for writing to David Oliver of East Northants Council on our behalf. His response will no doubt be that he is aware of our concerns, especially our Health & Safety fears appertaining to dozens of young children every Sunday morning in season having to cross the A6 to gain access to Jubilee Park but that they have been fully addressed by a safe walkway and a pelican crossing etc. All of this is a smoke-screen of the worst kind since he has no idea of the logistical problems involved and plainly does not understand, or even worse, doesn’t care about, the issues which so concern us as rugby players and parents/grandparents of the next generation of Rushden & Higham rugby players. He also must be aware that by building the new facility adjacent to our clubhouse and on our 1stXV pitch will effectively destroy what we have built up over 60 years when with a little more thought and just some small amount of the so-called “consultation” he refers to in the media, we could have found a better solution to suit us all.
We would like to take you up on your offer to attend our next committee meeting which is on Monday 14th September at the Manor Park clubhouse. The meeting commences at 7.30 pm and we would move the Ground Development agenda item to the fore of all other business. We would appreciate your comments on how we might best present our case that the council should revise their plans so that we retain our 1st XV Pitch and that if the new facility is built at all, it is built on a different area of Manor Park which has less of an impact upon our playing future and provides better facilities such as parking and another playing area for our Mini and Junior sections within the confines of Manor Park.
We look forward to seeing you on the 14th.
Kind regards
Yours sincerely
George Heyd-Smith
Treasurer

| | Date: | Wed 02 Sep 2009 15:50:34 BST | | Subject: | Plans | | | OK so a lot has already been said about the new leisure center and I would like to add my tuppence worth. It just amazes me at the complete lack of foresight and consideration shown by the council re the proposed new leisure center. It has become obvious that they have little regard for our club and to site the biulding on our first team pitch is an utter insult. So we can keep the bottom pitch and the clubhouse. Yeah that makes sense. Have a pint or a cuppa and watch........exactly! But hey! we can have more pitches at Jubilee Park. Apart from the dangers of transporting children, already outlined what about the parking? Five age groups, five visiting teams that's going to be a lot of cars parked along the A6. Then there will have to be the pitch clearance before every session/game dog mess, broken glass and who knows what else. No shelter, refreshments or, more importantly toilets. But know matter we will have a 'well lit walkway'....that's alright then. Why can't the leisure center be built on Jubilee Park?
It certainly is a disgraceful way to treat a club that has been resident and active in the town since the 50's.
They say kids are bored and have nothing to do. Just send a few councilors to Manor Park on a Sunday morning training session and let them see how many children enjoy the exercise, discipline and self confidence that our sport gives. Would the leisure center provide as much for a £25 subscription.....I think not.
I understand that land is available elsewhere for the club to re locate but who will pay for the creation of the pitches and a clubhouse? The council...well what do you think?
As to the leisure center itself I ask the question who will it cater for? I hear that are to be no sqaush courts, the sports hall will be much reduced in size and there will be no leisure pool for young children and tots. Not quite the future proof investment I would throw money at, but there again I'm a ratepayer so I have no choice. I think it's time that these plans were re- visited and some of the missing ingredient, much lacking i some quarters applied...COMMON SENSE.
I am willing to help in any way to get our club, and more importantly our players some justice.
